The Beer Factory

The Beer Factory (6141-6450) is a bar which opened recently at Sunway Giza, Kota Damansara. No, its not an actual factory, but uses that as a theme.

It’s got two floors (the upper one is called The Attic) and an outdoor area, which will be renovated into a garden theme soon.

Factory visit

One of the guys there, Kent, invited me over to check it out. And hit some of their house cocktails, with the help of head barman Daniel.

After a pint of Franziskaner, Daniel came to our table to set-up. There were mixers, flammable thermogel, a stove, a pan and Jack Daniel’s.

Mini-kitchen

Then he got busy. He started to cook something right there. It looked like frying.

Oi! Main masak-masak ah??

Barman Daniel cookin up

It’s a cooked cocktail called Take Me Home –  whisky, rum, Triple Sec, chocolate cubes, strawberry puree, cranberry juice & sweet ‘n sour. I fuckin loved it, coz it went down real easy, with a candy-like flavour. The chocolate bits was d clincher. It will hit u for $63.25 net (two servings).

Result

He proceeded to make us Strawberry Long Island Iced Tea ($40.25), with strawberry puree and crushed strawberries. Pretty strong. Some adjustment in strawberry flavour might be required if u prefer it sweeter. Its also available in a giant tumbler for $172.50.

Bastardized long island

The bar also serves Erdinger draft

There are five signature cocktails.

Beers on tap are Carlsberg, Hoegaarden, Connor’s, Erdinger, Fraziskaner and Stella, with prices ranging from $17.25 to $34.50, while happy hours are until 12am daily for now, and will revert to 10pm sometime in d future. Operation hours are 5pm to 2am daily.

There’re also about 30 bottled beers. At the mo, there’re bar snacks, but there’ll be more when the outlet’s launched & the kitchen’s fully in op.

Bottles are available – JW Black ($333.50 net), Absolut ($264.50), J Daniel’s ($310.50), Bacardi ($264.50, Jose Cuervo ($264.50).

The upper floor lounge, Attic

There’re promo prices for drinks during the World Cup.

Soon (probably mid-July), there will be a competition, Chapter 1, involving Erdinger. It’s 3-liters, 3 persons, 3 minutes, 3 Cemeteries, 300 bucks. Three of u will be given 3 minutes to down a HUGE fucking glass of Erdinger, followed by a cocktail each. Buy-in is $300 (pretty steep).  The winning team gets a 30-liter keg of Carlsberg.

The overall grand prize winner over the several months will win a year’s supply of booze. More details u better call ’em.

Hmmm. If beer weren’t so gassy, might give it a shot. The gas build-up is fuckin puky. It aint so bad with a weissbier tho. And a year’s supply of booze might kill me. Nice way to die eh.

But still my rep will drop if i end up spraying beer on spectator’s faces/shoes. Uncool.

Big daddy awaits - the 3-liter glass (next to a pint glass)

Great football drinks

World Cup 2010 South Africa is here – one month of consistent happy hours and late-nights.

There goes gym.

Bars will be the main financial beneficiaries of d tournament. Its a great windfall for them. Competition is stiff. Good.

Btw, the offical World Cup tune n video below. Called Waving Flags. Performed by K’naan, some African dude. Enjoy.

Anyway, some real sweet deals for drinkers goin on, especially at the newer establishments. Mostly for beers of course. Thank God for competition. (Note: All prices i post is always the nett price.)

Many outlets have been given exemption by city hall for one month to open till 5am. Kitchens are also open late for snacks n shit.

Probably the best u’ll ever get is at Movida (Sunway Giza, Kota D’sara, PJ). They got one-for-one deals from NOON till 10pm! And then again from 2am to 5am. Daily.

Here it is –

Drink dat, u alcos!

Paulaner & Kilkenny at $36.80 nett for two pints ($18.40 each) is pretty good. And $33.35 for two Guinnesses ($16.70 each). I doubt it can be matched at the moment. Its got a super-sized screen inside. All HD of course. Will most def checkitout.

Close by, The Beer Factory (6141-6450) (which will be featured soon) has a big-ass screen n beer deals too –

Yum

Yum

Erdinger, Stella, Hoegaarden, Franziskaner at $46 for two pints, until midnight. Definitely whoops The Library’s fat ass. ($36 for a Hoegaarden is insane.) Carlsberg is $34.50/pitcher at the Factory.

Over in TTDI, there’s good action too.

At PUBLIC (7729-9650) in TTDI Plaza, u can get a 2-liter special hand-blown Winner’s Trophy glass from Germany filled with Tiger for $180. Or a limited edition pint glass (5 designs) with Tiger for $25 net. Am sure there’re other deals too.

Deutsches Gasthaus on Lrg Rahim Kajai 14 has $25 nett for a pint of Hoegaarden, Franziskaner, Stella of Leffe. All nite. No fat screens as far as i know.

At Sid’s, its $19.55 for a pint of Guinness all nite. Also for Tiger. Its $10 nett i think. From noon. Full HD.

S’Mores at The Sphere in Bangsar South has a variety of bottled beers and get this – TWO pints of Guinness for 20 bucks net, from 5pm-7pm daily! The most awesomest. Other times, its $50 net for three pints. Also, for bottles – $50 for 3 Hoegaarden, and $75 for any three of these – Erdinger, Ludwig, Franziskaner, Erdinger or Weihenstephan. I dont think there’s a large screen tho.

Frontera (7958-8515) @ Jaya One has a variety of deals.

5pm till closing:

—————
Tiger mug @ $10 nett
Tiger jug @ $33 nett
Guinness (2 Pints) @ $33 nett ($16.50/pint)

——————————-

.

Bubbles has 3 pitchers of Tiger for $90 net. Guinness & Kilkenny is $18 for a pint and $50 for 3. Paulaner is $23 net.

Still, overall, Movida is recommended, coming out tops by far in terms of variety and hours.

Lower prices are always welcomed, coz thats higher consumption. Am sure there’re other promos dat am gonna come across – will update in d comments section.

Feel free to add-on any good promos, until July 11. Appreciate the feedback if u go to any of the above joints.

Goddam i wish it was World Cup all year!

Ecoba opens

Ecoba (7710-1118), a restaurant & bar, recently joined the PJ drinkin scene.

N

Ecoba (not Ecobar), is located in D’sara Perdana, at PJ Trade Center (Bata Tower) along d LDP. ECO stands for “Eat, Chill, Oogle”, tho am sure they mean ogle, coz there’s no word spelt oogle.

in

Dining area

Headed there for the soft launch, and indulged in some Dewar’s, which soon ran out.

Ecoba occupies a ground floor outlet

It’s got a pretty large space, and an outdoor section with bean bags n shit.

Island bar

Island bar

The outlet’s open from 11am daily. There’s happy hours (until 9) and the cheaper chill hours (before 6). Dats when 2 pints of Hoegaarden is $40. Ladies get free booze on Wednesdays.

There’re also deals on liquor – like $450  for two bottles of Dewar’s. More details on promos here. Cool thing is, all prices are nett.

From my observation of the scene, its probably gonna compete for The Library crowd.

Bean bag fest

There’s a beer-drinking competition every Monday (Carlsberg Centurion Challenge). Down 100 shots of beer in 100 mins and get $1,800 CASH and a bottle of Skyy. Sweet deal, real sweet. I’d go for it but beer makes me fuckin piss like hell. Ur not allowed to piss or puke.

My bladder will probably explode and tear my jeans n splatter piss and flesh on everybody’s faces. Uncool.

The buy-in is $188, and its limited to 10 pax. All winners get d prize. U need to register early as its full pretty quick. No lightweights, wannabes and emo-drinkers.

NOTE: Update – The challenge is now known as Elimination Centurion Challenge. Max 10 challengers. Each challenger takes a turn to call how many shots in a minute to drink (max 10 shooters per min). Once called, all must follow.  The trick to win max money is to eliminate your opponents. Each person is worth RM100. If you eliminate all… & you finish 100 shots, you walk away with $1800 (+ $900)  = $2700.

One year bash

Went down at The Pier in Tmn Tun.

Pretty insane. I was more smashed at dis anniversary than d blog launch itself.

Mari mari!

Thanks to Michael, the manager at The Pier, and Riche Monde, for sponsoring a case of Smirnoff Black. Wouldnt have been possible without them.
Dat afternoon, after sorting out 15 coconuts, we were at The Pier, kickin off with beers.

Early Birds Club consisted of i, my bro, Henry, Ovidia & Mark.

EBC in session, 530pm

Made a shitload of punch then started more serious drinking, as Mark walks in with a special bottle of Bundaberg Overproof Rum.

Proud daddy

Proud daddy

At 1.125 liters and 57.5% ABV, it’s a proper kick in da ass. Last time he gave me a bottle it was a Cordon Bleu!

No idea wtf a polar bear has gotta do with anythin

Warmin up

Party officially started at 7, but by then they were quite a few people already gettin senget. Number one drink was d Bundaberg and Kelapa Rock. There was tons of coconut water to go with the Smirnoffs, so am assuming this and d punch got most folks wasted.

Kelapa or Kepala? Both oso can

.

Russian punch!

Russian punch!

Guests start to pour in. No sweat. By keeping the set-up mostly self-service, i didnt have to do much, cept drink!

Special guest stars of d nite, Trish & Mo, my sista's twins

After we went thru 12 bottles of Smirnoff Black (tx Shirley!), a bottle of Bundaberg, three bottles of moonshine, a bottle of Bombay Sapphire (tx Louise), a case of Stella (tx Jess), a litre of Glenfiddich (tx bro), a liter of Famous Grouse, five liters of cider, and a bottle of Blavod, d party was rockin!

I mean, dats 20 bottles.

The Pier’s snacks helped us along. Especially the calamari rings! They’re said to serve some mean grilled tiger prawns too.

Michael, the manager, tried to shove a Flaming Lamborghini into me, but i deflected it to birthday boy Max. Sorry cant layan dat drink.

With Anni, d nite's photographer. Thankfully dis time d 'official' photographer didnt collapse, like at d blog launch

Black vodka

Dont recall d party ending! According to reports i moved on to Sid’s and had a couple of pints of Guinness before heading home, totalled! Haha. I think my stomach has grown by a few inches.

Thanks everyone who contributed, and those who partied! See yall at d next event (will think of sumtin!)

Salud!
