The high-class single malt, Mortlach

A new single malt has hit our shores, Mortlach, with the official launch party taking place at a cool spot called the Glasshouse.

The mega-pad

The mega-pad

Mortlach was the first distillery to be built at Dufftown, Scotland, in 1823, producing high-quality, luxurious malt that is unrivalled in flavor, earning its recognition as ‘The Beast of Dufftown’ from whisky connoisseurs.

Guests refuelled at the bar that was cookin up three types of whisky cocktails, that had the Mortlach Rare Old as the base. Each of the three mixologists served up a cocktail each.

The three new expressions are aimed at global travel and the luxury connoisseurs: Rare Old, 18-Year-Old and 25-Year-Old, which were awarded the best malts in its category at the recent International Spirits Award 2015.

A tasting was also done

The Rare Old Mortlach, carries Mortlach’s signature balance of sweetness and dryness, infused with the whisky’s fruit and flora notes; while the 18-Year-Old Mortlach sees an interplay of malty sweetness and balancing acidity, which is best enjoyed straight.

The 25-Year-Old Mortlach on the other hand, is a complex mix of spices and dense layers of sweetness, with some liquorice coming thru. Surprisingly light and easy on the palate. All bottles are 500ml.

Guests gained a premier Mortlach experience at an excellent and impressive venue. The Glasshouse lies by lots of greenery, and the rooftop is really cool too.

The Glenmorangie House, Scotland

.. is a chilled pad. Was there last year courtesy of Moet Hennessy, but never wrote about it.

Posted about the trip here and here before tho.

The Glenmorangie House is where we hung for a few days. It has its own website too.

The house is elegant and traditional, quite large, with big grounds.

The hall’s got a bar stocked with liquors, liqueurs, and ales. The best part is, it’s open 24 hours, coz it’s help-yourself.

We were also very fortunate to be entertained by a father-daughter pair of traditional musicians.

I asked if they could play the soundtrack for Last of The Mohicans, and she made a great attempt.

And another new Absolut bottle..

Absolut seems to be releasing new bottle designs every few months.

But the most exclusive and luxurious type of its iconic bottle is the Absolut Crystal Pinstripe.

Fancy

Inspired by the Savile Row pinstripe suit, the bottle has been designed by Swedish designer duo Skogsberg & Smart.

It was launched last week at Stockholm Airport, and in line with its exclusivity, will only be available at travel retail (soon). KLIA? I doubt it. Price is as yet unknown.

It’s hand-blown, hand-cut and hand-engraved in crystal by craftsmen at the Reijmyre glassworks in the Östergötland region in southern Sweden.

Set

Each bottle is numbered and signed by the cutter after inspection and approval. The bottle is presented in treasure chest case made by hand and dressed in traditional pinstripe fabric.

The case also contains two matching tumblers. The collection has been inspired by the Savile Row pinstripe suit.

With only 800 bottles produced, i reckon this one will interest bottle collectors.

Baileys Biscotti to launch

..in the UK for now. This is a brand new flavour, a blend of Baileys Original Irish Cream and the aroma of the traditional double-baked Italian biscuits, biscotti.

Cant wait

Biscotti is an almond and pine-nut biscuit.

This is now Baileys’ fifth flavour, as their flavour range is really going well. They’re pushing for Baileys to be enjoyed all year, and not just for Christmas.

Heck i’d enjoy it for CNY, Raya, Gawai, Kaamatan, Deepavali, Halloween, New Year, Wesak, Vesakhi, Valentine’s, breakfast….

Hoppin about

Yea, round up of some recent events.

1. Arthur’s Day launch

Was at Beer Factory, Sunway Giza, PJ.

Arthur's back

Arthur’s Day happens on Sept  23. More details here.

Some weird mickey mouse restaurant in Giza

2. Glenmorangie exclusive fat-cat dinner @ Spasso Milano

This was to introduce to selected guests the Glenmorangie Pride 1981. Good year.

Only 1,000 pieces have been produced for the world.

Thus it’s a very limited 28-year-old single malt. It’s like $400+ per shot. Definitely the most precious fluid I’ve ever consumed. Somehow i had three.

It’s pure ecstatic nectar, nuff said. The Pride is the pinnacle of Glenmorangie’s seemingly consistent desire to push boundaries and innovate. With this creation, a prized 18-year-old batch was aged a further 10 years in Sauternes ‘Barriques’ from the vineyard of Château d’Yquem, France. Fancy.

Malaysia has only been allocated 10 bottles. (Well, 9 now.) Its cost per bottle is more than all my furniture.

3. Unveiling of the Chivas Regal 18 Christian Lacroix Limited Edition Bottle

At Imagerom Studio in Kota D, Chivas Regal showcased its collaboration again with fashion designer Christian Lacroix for its super-premium Scotch, with a luxury limited edition. The bottle itself is a work of art, with a metallic outfit, and mirrored interior. Looks awesome, probably a collector’s item.

3,ooo made, with 1,000 for travel retail, where it goes for about RM1,500.
