Somersby Cider launches

A new cider has arrived, called Somersby.

Spot

The launch was at Carcosa Seri Negara, a fat-cat hotel in Federal Hill, KL. I love this place.

A special guest was the so-called Lord Somersby, a fat Irish guy (however the cider is from Sweden).

Garden party. I like

Anyway, the taste – my first thoughts – Zappel, the fizzy apple soda. Similar consistency, as in the carbonation, and similar sweetness. Hence, it’s served with ice. I’d recommend lotsa ice.

Soren of Carlsberg Malaysia officiating the launch

I had six. For a 4.5% abv, it seems a lot lighter, with not much impact.

Suitable for those who like sweet, gassy drinks.

The variety of cider that will be available will be apple, for now. The RRP is TBC.

U’d be able to find it at some supermarkets and bars soon, available in 330ml bottles.

Guess which one is Lord Somersby?

Spirits of the Harvest!

It’s Oooooohaa time, coz there’s an event this Saturday organized by Sarawakians in KL. It’s a tuak appreciation one. How damn cool.

I absolutely love drinking with Sarawakians. They know how to party. And are the best hosts I’ve ever met anywhere in the world.

I also spent four years of my pre-drinking life in Kuching.

Ngajat baby, ngajat!

I’m a judge in the Tuak of The Year competition. Haha! I have no idea how many entries there are, maybe dozens. So long as its not mixed with langkau like my 2009 music festival vacation in Sarawak, i should be fine.

A dude i met upriver

But then i’ve been well-trained many times in the deep depths of Borneo, esp during my travel-writing years. Had to ngirop servings of tuak as i walk through longhouses, one shot at each family’s door. Cool thing is they all taste different.

Tuak is a really nice drink by any standards. Personally i prefer the sweet variety, as well as ginger tuak, and of course, the aged ones. Goes down smooth n easy. The extra dry ones? A lil hard to drink.

Anyway, no need to go to Sarawak to try the various blends and vintages, coz it’s come here!

Kicks-off at 6.30pm at a joint called Seduction on P Ramlee, KL, behind the dodgy Beach Club. Go on time if u wanna have samples. No entry fee, unless you wanna enter the tuak of the year shit. Submissions are still possible until the event, right until 7pm on Saturday.

Gosh. I’m screwed.

There’s a blowpipe challenge in da mix. I shd try dat coz i got skills. Maybe less skills when sengeted.

Mou Man Tai. Time to run!

Tom Dick & Harry’s annual fun 5km night run is happening on the 1st of July at TTDI. There was a huge crowd last year!

The last run had 700. Dis time they’re aiming for two grand.

It’s for a good cause, to raise awareness on how AIDs affects us, which generally has been a neglected issue. Funds from the $40 entry fee ($10 each) will be channeled to The Malaysian Aids Foundation.

Entry fee is $40/runner ( includes free pre-run drinks, exclusive TDH run T-Shirt, and free-flow after the run whilst stocks lasts. After-partyy!).

The guys at TDH even created a video to hype the event here.

The event starts from 5pm. Checkout the FB event page and run details are here. U can get the registration form from either of their outlets.

Even the launch party was a blast

I haven’t  been training for running, so will probably miss out. Might join the after party tho!

Enjoy!

Belgian Beer Fest

..goin on now at all Brussels Beer Cafes.

An interesting variety of beers are available at Brussels.

The details

A new one was unveiled at the launch last Tuesday – Hoegaarden Rosé. On tap!

It’s basically Hoegaarden ale infused with raspberries. It was a lil too sweet at first, but funnily enough, it grew on me.

New hoe hits town

For now, the Rosé is only available at the Jaya One outlet.

The main beers being featured for the festival, which is from June 6 – 16, are Hoegaarden, Stella Artois, Grimbergen, Leffe & Belle-vue.

When i was in Brussels (the real one in Belgium), there were tons of beers, especially those made from fruits. There was strawberry, apple, cherry, raspberry, banana, grape, etc etc. Had a blast trying them all.

Colours galore

I can vouch that they’re all great drinks. You can get a platter of all beers in tasting sizes, called the Combo, and it comes with a food platter too. For $93.70 nett, u can get the pair. Or just the beers for $68.20.

Get there before June 16.

The platter. 200ml a pop

Jager and egg? How about no?!

Dax was made to down a Jager submarine (pint) by 6pm

Time to get dizzy
