The BIG beer-tasting

Tested shitloads of interesting beers for some freelance work – writing a beer supplement for New Man mag. Twelve pages worth!

I was handed 30+ different beers to test, from all over the world (but sold here). How nice of the editor.

This is how my fridge looked like:

So many beers, it blocked out the sun

It was quite an experience. There were many beers that i’ve never had in my life. So i had a beer-tasting party at the pad. Needed back-up yo! Got prettyyy bent.

Am better at appreciating beers now, tho i’m still not a very big lager fan. Definitely prefer ales. I make exceptions for Beer Lao and Chang.

Some of the aftermath

It was a fun assignment. Of all the beers tested, 24 are featured in the mag, ranging from Best Draughts, Best Easy-Drinking Beers to..

In a hurry to get whacked?? Refer to "Beers to Get you There" and choose from five options. This punk is a 10%

One of my favourite dark beers

Enjoyed the wheat beers the most – Franziskaner, Konig Ludwig and Erdinger Dunkel, a dark wheat beer. The articles are in this month’s issue of New Man.

There's actually quite a range in Malaysia, mostly in supermarkets

The beers featured retail from $4 to $22 per bottle.

I hope this is an annual part of the mag! Monthly would be better of course, but there aren’t enough beers here dammit.

Oktoberfesting!

This has been a month of beers! Shitloads of beers.

Wats so funny drunkard?!

GAB is behind the country’s biggest Oktoberfest celebrations thus far, with various events all over Malaysia. Street parties, all-night happy hours, German food, music, etc. It’s 200 years since the fest began in Germany.

Dats me in green, participating in sum retarded Martian dance

Fortunately, recovered in time and tried to look short. Booze in one hand, alcohol-tax protest flyers in the other. Haha

Attended the launch of GAB’s Oktoberfest at Souled Out. T’was quite a party! With tents outdoors n all. The best part was the mega one-liter mugs! Insane. Bigger than some of my friends’ heads. And you could refill them as often as u wanted.

The taps ready to rumble

All taps were flowing – Guinness, Kilkenny, Tiger, Heineken, Paulaner and Strongbow. A no-holds-barred event!

Hey, but thats MY line. Haha. Refer to my Booze Glossary

I decided to hang with Kilkenny. Had litres of it!

That's what d bottom of a one-litre mug looks like. Pretty damn far

There's a really unique clunk when u cheers with one-litre mamas

The Oom Pah Pah band added some zest to d festivities. And the German-looking ‘barmaids’.

Ze band played on

D fest outside Souled Out

Then there was the one at Sid’s TTDI. Outdoor as well, and the band showed up again.

Saw them yet again at the launch of Mayfair, a new English bar /pub / restaurant in Damansara Perdana (PJ Trade Center, near Ecoba).

Luv dat tree. Afternoon session, Sid's Kenny Hills

Mayfair

And saw the band yet again at the huge Beerfest in the gardens of Sid’s Kenny Hills. By then i knew the goddam lyrics.

DOZENS of barrels went down last Sunday afternoon in the outdoors. Cheap booze, chillout weather. Perfect!

In the midst of all dat partyin & shit, had to organize a press conference to protest the damn booze tax. Haha. An October to remember, if my brain's ok

I’ve put on one kilo. And October aint even over. Is it party season yet??

Lord have mercy.

Now THAT'S a goddam drink

Spotted…

Guinness Draught – in a can!

Now, you can enjoy the same classic smoothness wherever you are.

Grab it

About time! Its been awhile since i scored me one of these. Great for travelling and home drinking. BBQs and shit.

None of ’em fakes draughts, but the real deal, with a lil nitrogen canister inside. Once u pop the can, the canister activates and the beer is filled with millions of tiny nitrogen bubbles. Brilliant.

Was hurrying to get other booze so didnt get some. But will do real soon. ABV is 4.2% and the can (330ml) retails for around 8 bucks . Quite reasonably-priced i think. Its made in Dublin, Ireland.

Arthur’s pre-party

Big drinking party by Guinness goin on today (Wed) at all four Sid’s Pubs – TTDI, Damansara Heights, Kenny Hills & Bangsar South.

Do it

Here’s the deal:

16:59 – 17:59 – free-flow Guinness Draft
18:00 – 23:59 – $10 net per half pint

This is in conjunction with Arthur’s Day, which is the day Arthur Guinness signed a lease for the Guinness brewery 251 years ago in Dublin. There’s also a gig, i think it’s tomw or sumtin.

The Guinness bus will make an appearance. Unfortunately it aint a party bus, ie, no drinking inside.
