Spirits of the Harvest!

It’s Oooooohaa time, coz there’s an event this Saturday organized by Sarawakians in KL. It’s a tuak appreciation one. How damn cool.

I absolutely love drinking with Sarawakians. They know how to party. And are the best hosts I’ve ever met anywhere in the world.

I also spent four years of my pre-drinking life in Kuching.

Ngajat baby, ngajat!

I’m a judge in the Tuak of The Year competition. Haha! I have no idea how many entries there are, maybe dozens. So long as its not mixed with langkau like my 2009 music festival vacation in Sarawak, i should be fine.

A dude i met upriver

But then i’ve been well-trained many times in the deep depths of Borneo, esp during my travel-writing years. Had to ngirop servings of tuak as i walk through longhouses, one shot at each family’s door. Cool thing is they all taste different.

Tuak is a really nice drink by any standards. Personally i prefer the sweet variety, as well as ginger tuak, and of course, the aged ones. Goes down smooth n easy. The extra dry ones? A lil hard to drink.

Anyway, no need to go to Sarawak to try the various blends and vintages, coz it’s come here!

Kicks-off at 6.30pm at a joint called Seduction on P Ramlee, KL, behind the dodgy Beach Club. Go on time if u wanna have samples. No entry fee, unless you wanna enter the tuak of the year shit. Submissions are still possible until the event, right until 7pm on Saturday.

Gosh. I’m screwed.

There’s a blowpipe challenge in da mix. I shd try dat coz i got skills. Maybe less skills when sengeted.

Mou Man Tai. Time to run!

Tom Dick & Harry’s annual fun 5km night run is happening on the 1st of July at TTDI. There was a huge crowd last year!

The last run had 700. Dis time they’re aiming for two grand.

It’s for a good cause, to raise awareness on how AIDs affects us, which generally has been a neglected issue. Funds from the $40 entry fee ($10 each) will be channeled to The Malaysian Aids Foundation.

Entry fee is $40/runner ( includes free pre-run drinks, exclusive TDH run T-Shirt, and free-flow after the run whilst stocks lasts. After-partyy!).

The guys at TDH even created a video to hype the event here.

The event starts from 5pm. Checkout the FB event page and run details are here. U can get the registration form from either of their outlets.

Even the launch party was a blast

I haven’t  been training for running, so will probably miss out. Might join the after party tho!

Enjoy!

Good Ol’ Ronnie Q’s

Ronnie Q’s (2282 0722 ) is a restaurant-bar that’s definitely an icon of Bangsar. It’s been quenching thirst for 20 years now! Amazing. Probably a million litres of beer have been swallowed here.

It’s the original neighbourhood pub, on Telawi 2. Dozens of bars and clubs have come and gone in the Telawi area since Ronnie Q’s first opened as pioneer (Canteena too, but it died recently), dozens, but Ronnie Q’s has remained strong.

The laid-back, friendly atmosphere and good drinks and food has ensured that owner Ronnie can look forward to many more years.

Large space

I guess i’d describe it as a classy traditional sports-bar. It’s seen some renovation over the years, and has kept up with the times, but maintains a British pub feel.

Sports feature heavily here.

The bar’s length is probably the longest in Bangsar

It’s a GAB outlet, so beers on tap are Guinness, Tiger, Kilkenny, Paulaner and Strongbow.

Food is a supporting act and is mix of western and local. The regular favourites are the wild boar dry curry, and Spicy Mutton/Pork ($16.90), both served with toast. Great with beers.

The wild boar is tender, while the spicy pork is a laid-back, medium-spicy curry. Easy-going with great flavours.

The mutton dish is rich, a lil sweetish, and way spicier. The kind u keep nibbling at with a cold antidote in the other hand.

The Spicy Mutton is an awesome snack

The lamb satay is unique; done sweetish, kinda caramalized, and reminds me of lap chong.

Lamb

Had to have the Pork Ribs. It was a great call. The meat’s juicy, medium-tender, coated with a bbq-style sauce, and very fresh.

Yea baby

You’ll also find stuff like Fish n’ Chips ($20), All-Day Breakfast ($24.90), burgers & dawgs (pork/beef/chicken/lamb), Bangers ‘n Mash ($22), chops, sandwiches and snacks.

Met Batboy

The semi-outdoor area

At happy hours, you’ll get sets of two pints at these prices, all NETT: Guinness ($41), Kilkenny ($43), Tiger ($34.20) and Strongbow ($47). And during Euro 2012, u’ll enjoy happy hours all day, all night.

Am officially a human spare-parts store

Received my Organ Donor Card today. If i die, my parts will live on. Haha

Easy

Do it. Don’t assume u gonna live forever, altho dats human nature/ human arrogance. Go to A Gift of Life now. Fill the form, and the card that u should carry on you at all times, will be mailed to you.

It only takes five minutes. And it could make someone who’s now in misery and suffering on a daily basis, happy and free for the rest of their lives.
I don’t think it’s a great thing to do, merely the logical one. In fact I feel it shd be d other way around. You shd carry a card if u DON’T want your parts used.

Our organs originated when we were in our Mum’s belly, a miracle and gift from Nature. Just pay it forward now.

If there’s one thing we’ll never know, it’s when we gonna checkout.

Don't be stingy now
