2012

Party Season 2012 was pretty BIG. It creeped in early November, and it’s been relentless, till now. Hence, the lack of blog posts. No time. Haha!

Anyway, am on a 22-day drinking run. Today, Jan 7, I did not drink. Finally. (But then again the night’s still young!)

So Party Season has just ended for me, and it was intense.

2012 went in a flash. The human race is still here tho, unfortunately for the other species.

Lookin back, via pictures, here’re some of highlights (for me at least).

A good year. Managed to do quite a bit rather than sit on my ass and waste precious life. Managed to grow spiritually & personally too.

Plan to travel domestically more often this year, esp on weekends. Might even do the Rainforest World Music Fest again after a three-year boycott. And hopefully at least one major overseas trip to a new country. Bro wants to hit Cuba.

Health-wise, sallgood. And thanks to Kamliari, my liver is now brand new!

2013 should be even better for me personally. Also, for the world i think. People are becoming less religious but more spiritual. They’re also more aware, and can see thru the bullshit being fed to us. Even people in US are realizing they’re being screwed by their government and corporations and the president; about time too.

Anyway, all the best for the year yall! Take less, give more. Change the world. Salud!

Where da party at

Carlsberg’s Where’s The Party is now a regular program in the year’s big parties. Well, it’s not that big coz the entire world aint invited, which is what makes it better than the rest.

The latest one was the third, and my second, after the brewery party earlier this year. This time, an overnight gig. Nice.

Islands are always good. Great in fact. Penang is a spot i party at every coupla years.

A party at d beach – it’s what we all need, regularly! We live in a tropical country encircled by the ocean for God’s sake!

Anyway, buses scooped our butts from KL to Penang.

Even Ewok joined the party

All aboard

View from my pad

A real big-ass media conference, with lotsa beer flowing

The performers n Carlsberg folks

The beach spot

There were food stalls set-up on the beach too, (at Feringghi) hawker-style, and guests could grab whatever they wanted. And the lager flowed freely of course.

A beach lounge. Nice

Set-up was awesome

Some of d beach bums

TAG rocked d set

And so did true R&B mama Kellis! Great show

Dont recall what time i left d beach, but d crowd had thinned out. It went on pretty late, fortunately.

A kick-start to Party Season 2012. A good nite out; lookin forward to the next one.

MJ decided to sit this one out

The Hendrick’s Gin party

Hendrick’s is a gin. Sumtin i dont do often. So when the opportunity arose to party, 1920’s style, i wuz all over it.

It graced the premises of Estate, a cool restaurant-bar at Intermark Kuala Lumpur.

Menu was quite interesting, especially the gin-infused food!

Hendrick’s (ABV 41.4%) considers itself a premium gin, as well as a peculiar one. It’s made in small batches. At 41%, it’s light for a gin, as most hover close to 50%.

I luv d dark bottle, like sumtin straight outta Victorian-era chemist, lookin really old and all.

It’s made in a village. In Scotland. Haha

Born in 1999, it’s relatively new. It’s distributed here by Single Malt Sdn Bhd. (who also bring in Angostura rum!)

Met a dame from the 20’s

Among gin brands, Hendrick’s would be considered floral and vegetal, with infusions of rose and cucumber. (If you’ve eaten rose petals, as i have on varied occasions, they’re actually sourish.)

(Also, carpet grass is not as bitter as you think.)

It’s goes easy on the juniper, unlike classic gins like Tanqueray, which give more strong flavours. Hendrick’s is light and fresh.

Estate rocked

Erik the brand ambassador was supposedly around, tho i didnt see him.

There were three cocktails being served, as no one seemed to want it straight. The first was the usual – gin & tonic, which i dislike. The second (lemon-elderflower soda mix) and third were great, especially the tea!

Tea??

Yea, tea

Aint no ordinary crap tea. This baby is pretty loaded with Hendricks, and has a sweetish-strong mix, smelling of potpourri a lil, and tastes like… i dunno. Like a fresh spring garden.

‘Tea’ servings were small

I think we had a pot each! (Then we hit another party!)

Alcohol make you strong!

Tea!  More tea!

There was also Hendricks jelly….  Hendrick’s dip….. Hendrick’s dis n dat…. and awesome Hendrick’s strawberry sorbet shots!

Down d hatch!

It was a cool party, with good food n drinks and great service and an interesting crowd, including these two punks:

Where da Tommy gun at boys??

Oktoberfest parties!

Guinness Anchor Bhd (GAB) was probably the first to kick-off its Oktoberfest celebrations, while Arthur’s Day season was still in session.

I’d bang those drums anytime

Social @ Publika was the spot. Paulaner was the featured beer, with the regular draught wheat version being served, as well as the special and iconic Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier, which comes in bottles (500ml, ABV 6%), from Munich, the home of the annual fest.

This is a lager, and is a lil malty, and quite crisp, with a sorta bitter tease at d finish.

Limited

The fun party saw all their beer taps in action, and a lamb rolling around on a spit provided food, which was awesome.

Tiger eh?

You can also get a huge-ass one-liter stein, and this year’s one is ceramic. Nice. But steep at 50 bucks, even if it’s full.

Cant remember where i left mine. Its probably still at Social.

Anyway, GAB’s Oktoberfest parties are listed here. Check ’em out for some good beer, food and merry-making. These Oktoberfest parties are goin down all over the Valley till Oct 31.

Drownworthy

OVER AT German restaurant Brotzeit, there are parties goin on too. And some kick-ass beers, as well as killa food.

Full house

The deputy German Ambassador joined in the festivities, and tapped a beer barrel at the exact time Oktoberfest launched in Munich. Here they do have the Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier on tap.

In fact, there’s a very good variety of beers, mostly in bottles.

There’s also the one-litre can (on the right) dat comes in a stein, and the two-litre bottle

A mixed bucket. Excellent

Fat monk likes to party. This double bock is sweetish/malty and strong (7.9%)

Food, by Chef Helmut, is great. I had the beef goulash to start.

Wacha lookin at?!

There’s also this crazy platter for hungry hogs.

Crazy enough?  (pix by Samuel “Superman” Ong)

There’s also a very entertaining band called Deriolama. Try to catch em in action.

Brotzeit will be having four more Oktoberfest parties listed here, and reservations are necessary.

Enjoy the Party Season prelude month / warm-up month of October. I sure will!
