Hit The Roof

A complete eating, drinking and playing experience is gonna kick-off real soon. It’s collectively called The Roof, and has five outlets that basically cover all angles.

A preview party took place on Saturday, tho the joint is still under construction. It’s located on the top floor of First Avenue building in Bandar Utama, PJ.

We had a few drinks at Score, the sports bar, before the tour. This place has pool, darts, and will feature beer deals and finger food.

Beside the sports bar is Play, a huge club with a capacity for 600. Definitely the largest one in these parts, and will see DJs and gigs takin place.

Signature will be a trendy gastro-lounge of 11,000 sq ft. There’ll also be stuff like cooking classes, weekend brunches and wine dinners.

Serving single malts and cigars is Malt & Leaf. There’ll be premium malts and cigars from around the world, and occupies a scenic corner with sunset views.

The highlight (for me at least) is Stratosphere. Open-air partying, especially hundreds of meters high on a 360-degrees open rooftop, is sumtin else. The feel is awesome.

The Roof will definitely will create a major impact on the scene, and hopefully more events will move away from KL City to PJ. I cant recall exactly how many events i skipped coz it was in KL i was lazy to drive in. And joints like Vertigo might be in trouble.

Look out for the gradual opening full-operation of all the outlets over the next few weeks. However, it’s actually opening this weekend.

(Am assisting with The Roof’s marketing, so media keen on checking out the place and have some fun can reach me at deepklc@gmail.com.)

Guinness to get a new suit

Guinness Foreign Extra Stout (FES), the iconic strong stout, is gonna get a new look real soon, and it’s quite a change. It looks very modern actually. A radical move by Guinness.

The change will affect both the can and the bottles. They’ll be a lot blacker, that’s for sure.

It will be launched in November. But here’s a sneak peek, just a peek. Dont wanna spoil Guinness’s party!

Royal Dragon Vodka in town

A new brand of vodka has arrived, Royal Dragon. And the kick-ass party was at Marini’s On 57.

It’s kinda brings together different angles from various countries – combining the best ingredients from around the world – Russian vodka, 23-carat Swiss gold, the Asian dragon, diamonds from Belgium, Italian packaging and Dutch design. It’s brought in by Carlsberg Breweries Malaysia via its subsidiary Luen Heng.

Ready

Ready to rock

Yup, it’s in the super premium category. There are three variants – the entry-level Elite, the Imperial, which comes in a fancy box (this goes all the way to 6-liters), while top-of-the-shelf Emperor is a limited edition one which has a special ”crystal dragon in a golden cage motif bottle, gold flakes and an 18 carat solid gold cap with 35 diamonds”. No kidding.

888 Emperors have been produced.

You can enjoy drinking top grade Swiss gold flakes when you have the Emperor. Don’t freak out when you take a crap the next morning and your dump starts to shine at you.

This newly-created brand has a health angle too, as it uses organic winter harvest rye, which is then distilled five times in copper pot stills in St Petersburg. The result is an exceptionally smooth product, enjoyed over cubes or in mixes.

The bottles look pretty nice; they’re hand blown. And sitting inside is a sculptured dragon.

The Royal Dragon will only be found at selected high-end pubs, bars and entertainment outlets. Enjoy!

Absolut Hibiskus

Yea, it’s here. Absolut Hibiskus is now available in KL and the rest of Malaysia, as well as duty-free, as of Sept 1.

Fresh

The kick-ass launch party was last Friday, and it was good. Lots of Hibiskus too, served via two varieties of cocktails. It went down at The Poppy Lounge, which has been extensively renovated and lookin nice.

There were artworks on display, a collaboration between Pernod Ricard Malaysia and online art hub 3editions.

The cocktails on tap were Absolut Pom-Rose and Absolut Calamansi, created by 23aubergine. The Pom-Rose was real good, with the addition of roselle juice and some pomegrenate syrup, plus lemonade; i added a squeeze of lime for a lil zest.

The Calamansi starts sour due to the lime, then ends bitter. Interesting, but not in large amounts for me.

I had Absolut Hibiskus straight. Quite palatable. If i had vodka on da rocks, i would probably opt for the Hibiskus. All day. It’s got a light floral nose, almost rose-like, while in the mouth, there are berry flavours, plus a natural sweetness.

The Hibiskus is actually an infusion of hibiscus and pomegranate. Absolut only makes flavored vodkas from natural ingredients, and no sugar is added. There’s a bunch of Hibiskus cocktail recipes here.

The drink is available at F&B outlets as well as off-trade at Cold Storage, Jason’s, Mercato and Econsave.

There’ll be other Absolut Hibiskus events over the next few weeks, with the next one this Friday @ Luna Bar. Nice. Like Absolut’s FB page to stay wired.

ALSO, on Sept 27 Pernod Ricard Asia will be unveiling the world’s first Absolut Brand Store at KLIA! How convenient. I’ll be in the vicinity for Arthur’s Day.
